Getting crews to implement the company policies and procedures is the greatest challenge. Since 2005 we have been assisting companies by providing quarterly two-hour, safety and security visits. These visits consist of an inspection of the vessel, logs and records, and the crew’s knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures, followed by immediate training on any issues uncovered and a scheduled training topic, and a safety or security drill. On board logs and records are updated, and a one page report documenting the visits is provided to the company which can be used to generate corrective action and be used in personnel performance reviews.
